§ Q9. Mr. William Hamiltonasked the Prime Minister whether he will take an early opportunity to visit Scotland to consult with the Scottish Trades Union Congress General Council and employers' representatives on the problems of the economy.
§ The Prime MinisterNew economic planning machinery, including a Scottish Planning Council which will draw part of its membership from both sides of Scottish industry, is expected to be in operation early in the New Year. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland has already met the Chairman and Secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress; the Chairman of the Scottish section of the Federation of British Industries; and the Chairman of the Scottish Council (Development and Industry). He will in the near future meet members of the Economic Committee of the Congress. My right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade will be visiting Scotland early in January and he will be meeting the Scottish Trades Union Congress. There is thus no lack of opportunity for Scottish economic problems to be brought to Ministerial attention.
