HC Deb 14 December 1964 vol 704 cc4-5W
45. Mr. Lipton

asked the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs what has been the outcome of the representations made by the British Ambassador in Cairo to the Government of the United Arab Republic about the recent bomb incidents in Aden.

Mr. Padley

Her Majesty's Ambassador in Cairo saw the United Arab Republic Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs on 1st December. In reply to the Ambassador's representations, the Minister informed him that the Government of the United Arab Republic dissociated themselves from any formal connection with, or direct responsibility for, the activities of the National Liberation Front which appears to have been responsible for these outrages. Nevertheless, the Liberation Front's subversive activities and appeals to open violence are still being given full and approving coverage in the Cairo Press and radio. This can only be regarded as an attempt to intimidate those who genuinely desire political progress, and we shall continue to make representations as necessary.
