§ 49. Mr. Alasdair Mackenzieasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, in view of the need to increase the number of 72W beef cattle, he will introduce a second category under the Hill Cow Subsidy Scheme to be applicable to borderline cases which do not qualify under the present scheme and to small units which are better suited to cattle rearing than to growing crops for sale.
§ Mr. RossFarms which do not qualify under the present scheme are those which are capable of being used for cash cropping or other more intensive forms of husbandry: small units which are better suited to cattle rearing than to growing crops for sale would almost certainly be accepted as eligible. I see therefore no justification for widening the definition.
