§ 33. Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Secretary of State for Industry, Trade and Regional Development, in view of the fact that in the South-West percentage increases in employees and net migration were second only to those in the South-East, what steps he proposes to take to create conditions which would enable an increase in the average earnings in the area.
§ Mr. HeathAverage weekly earnings of male manual workers in the South-West, as covered by the Ministry of Labour earnings inquiry, have increased by 23 per cent. in the past three-and-a-half years. This is a higher increase than the national average.
