§ 43. Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, in view of the fact that 58.3 per cent. of those with test score 52–60 at 8 years of age leave school at 15 years of age in Scotland, compared with 43.8 per cent. in England, he will set up an inquiry into the reasons for the high percentage of those with above average ability leaving school in Scotland at 15 years of age.
Mr. CampbellNo. The figures quoted by the hon. Member relate to a sample of children in March, 1961. Following the introduction in Scotland of the ordinary grade in 1962, the proportion of above average pupils remaining at school beyond 15 has increased substantially.
