Mr. Thorntonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what machinery exists for the co-ordination of Government pronouncements on long range expenditure proposals involving both current and capital planning; and whether he will publish a White Paper setting out the estimated cost of expenditure programmes announced between 24thOctober and 12th November.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThese announcements are co-ordinated by the customary processes of interdepartmental consultation and Ministerial decision. My right hon. Friend has already given the House some estimates of public expenditure in 1967–68 which of course take account of recent announcements in particular fields and we are considering the possibility of publishing a White Paper on certain aspects of public expenditure. This would go far wider than the suggestion made in the hon. Gentleman's Question.
