§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterResearch into multiple or disseminated sclerosis is being supported from public funds by the Medical Research Council and by university and hospital departments. A46W valuable contribution is also being made by independent organisations such as the Nuffield Foundation and the Multiple Sclerosis Society and in addition, there is a great deal of fundamental research which may prove relevant to the understanding of the demyelinating diseases. It is therefore impossible to make a realistic estimate of the expenditure specifically and solely related to combating this disease. I can assure my hon. and gallant Friend that any promising lines of research into this painful and distressing disease will be vigorously pursued.
