HC Deb 14 May 1963 vol 677 c136W
36. Mr. Costain

asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science what procedure is adopted to ensure that the duplication of effort by Government research organisations is kept to a minimum.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

Government Departments, Research Councils, and the Atomic Energy Authority are responsible for ensuring that there is no unnecessary duplication in their own organisations. This responsibility is exercised in a variety of ways. Use is made, for example, of advisory bodies, with interlocking membership: of interdepartmental scientific committees: and of the knowledge of scientific staff at Headquarters, and at Research Establishments, about relevant work being carried out elsewhere.
