HC Deb 27 March 1963 vol 674 c151W
17. Miss Quennell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will appoint a committee of investigation under Section 19 (3) of the Agricultural Marketing Act, 1958, to consider the procedures employed in the recent British Egg Marketing Board Elections, and the desirability of members of the British Egg Marketing Board holding personal financial interests in egg-packing stations.

Mr. Soames

No. It would not be appropriate for the Committee of Investigation, which is a standing committee appointed under Section 19, to consider this or any other election; and I am in any case unwilling to intervene in a matter which is primarily of domestic concern to egg producers. The second point could be referred to the Committee, but only after a formal complaint relating to a particular case had been received.
