Fraserasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the difficulties being encountered with local landowners which are causing a delay in making a start on the Larkhall-Hamilton-Uddingston bypass; and when it is expected that the difficulties will be overcome and work started on the project.
§ Mr. NobleThe objections by landowners have been based on grounds of severance and amenity. Additionally, however, delay in making a start to this project has been caused by ground conditions which have made it necessary to adjust the proposed line of the road. Negotiations with the parties concerned are not yet complete, but I hope that all formalities can be carried through in time to allow work to start in the spring of 1964.
