HC Deb 05 March 1963 vol 673 cc30-1W
Mr. Bottomley

asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will make a statement about the demonstration involving British interests in Somaliland.

Mr. Heath

Yes. Anti-British demonstrations took place outside Her Majesty's Embassy and the premises of the British Council in Mogadishu on 24th February and outside Her Majesty's Consulate-General at Hargeisa and in Berbera on 26th February. At Mogadishu stones were thrown by the crowd, windows were broken and cars were damaged; but there were no attacks on British commercial premises and no British subjects, official or private, were injured. The demonstrations at Hargeisa and Berbera were peaceful.
