§ 14. Mr. Thorpeasked the Minister of Transport whether he will publish a map showing those parts of the country's road system which are not yet considered to be satisfactory for today's needs.
§ Mr. MarplesThis is an interesting suggestion. But the total mileage of roads in England and Wales is 167,800. Of this I am responsible for the 6,500 miles of trunk roads and motorways and the local highway authorities for the rest. I would hardly think it feasible to show on a single map, in sufficient detail to be worthwhile, which of all these roads require improvement.
