HC Deb 23 July 1963 vol 681 c159W
68. Mr. Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why it was decided that, following the arrest of Miss Marilyn Rice-Davies on 16th June last for the suspected larceny of a television set worth £80, bail of £1,000 was a reasonable amount under section 38(2) of the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1952.

Mr. Brooke

Having regard to the means believed to be at the disposal of Miss Rice-Davies and the fact that she was on the point of leaving the country when she was taken into custody, bail of £1,000 was regarded as a reasonable amount to secure her subsequent attendance at Marylebone Lane Police Station.
