HC Deb 23 July 1963 vol 681 c143W
1. Mr. Ridley

asked the Postmaster-General what is the estimated cost of the advertisements he is inserting in national newspapers to encourage people to write more letters; and what is the expected revenue to be derived there from.

Mr. Mawby

About £150,000 for a campaign lasting 12 months. It is not possible to say what additional revenue these advertisements will bring in; but we think the calculated commercial risk we are taking in advertising in this way will pay off.
