asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many men are in receipt of disability pensions in respect of service in the 1914–18 war, and the 1939–45 war, respectively; and what is the annual cost in each case.

It is estimated that in the current financial year the average number of ex-Service men and ex-Service women receiving war disability pensions in respect of service in the 1914–18 war and earlier wars will be some 167,000 and for the 1939–45 war and subsequently will be about 296,000; the costs (including allowances) are estimated at £26,620,000 and £44,230,000 respectively.

to those mentioned in the Question, the main difference being that the personal sector includes unincorporated businesses. For completeness, the table also shows payments of Surtax, all of which is paid by the personal sector.
