asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the amount of local authority temporary debt on 3rd October, 1962, and at the latest convenient date, respectively.

Temporary borrowing by local authorities at the end of September, 1962, and March, 1963 (the nearest convenient dates) amounted to about £1,120 million and £1,220 million, respectively.
