HC Deb 17 July 1963 vol 681 c69W
Mr. Prior

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs how many houses are at present being built by Lowestoft Borough Council; how many have been approved by him for the year 1963–64; what has been the number of completions in the last two years; what was the average time taken to build them; how many families have been rehoused from slum clearance; and how many people are awaiting houses on the general housing list.

Mr. Corfield

The council has 184 houses under construction; no fresh scheme has been submitted for approval this year but one for 63 houses is expected shortly; 92 houses were completed in 1961 and 66 in 1962. At present completion is taking 7 to 8 months from the time the builder starts; weather and other factors may cause delays from time to time. 543 families have been rehoused from unfit houses and temporary bungalows since November, 1955. I am informed that 597 families are registered on the waiting list, of whom the council thinks that 326 have an established need.
