§ Mr. Priorasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs how many houses are at present being built by Lowestoft Borough Council; how many have been approved by him for the year 1963–64; what has been the number of completions in the last two years; what was the average time taken to build them; how many families have been rehoused from slum clearance; and how many people are awaiting houses on the general housing list.
§ Mr. CorfieldThe council has 184 houses under construction; no fresh scheme has been submitted for approval this year but one for 63 houses is expected shortly; 92 houses were completed in 1961 and 66 in 1962. At present completion is taking 7 to 8 months from the time the builder starts; weather and other factors may cause delays from time to time. 543 families have been rehoused from unfit houses and temporary bungalows since November, 1955. I am informed that 597 families are registered on the waiting list, of whom the council thinks that 326 have an established need.
