§ 68. Mr. Critchleyasked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty if he will institute a retraining scheme in Chatham Dockyard so that workers who become redundant within the next two years may be able to take advantage of such facilities.
§ Mr. HayI will bear my hon. Friend's suggestion in mind and will arrange for it to be discussed with the trades unions concerned.
§ 69. Mr. Critchleyasked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty how many craftsmen have become redundant as a result of the plan to eliminate some 500 jobs over two years in Chatham Dockyard; and if he will consider allowing them to work as skilled labourers if they so wish and to continue to be paid at craftsmen's rates.
§ Mr. HayAs regards the first part of the Question I have nothing at present to add to the statement I made on 29th May. The proposal in the second part of the Question is contrary to the principle of the rate for the job.
