asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what annual sum would be required if the amount of the retirement pension were varied by 5 per cent.; and what percentage of the national income this would represent.

In 1964–65, about an extra £50 million, and roughly 0.2 per cent., assuming no corresponding variation in war pensions, widows', unemployment, sickness and other benefits.
