§ The Prime MinisterAs was announced on 9th January, my noble Friend the Lord President of the Council has accepted my invitation to undertake special responsibilities in relation to the present problems of the North-East of England, that is to say, the counties of Northumberland and. Durham and the North Riding of Yorkshire. He has already made a preliminary visit to the North-East and will be making a more extended tour at the beginning of February. He will advise my colleagues and me on the measures necessary to deal with these problems and will be responsible for ensuring that action authorised by the Government is carried out as quickly and effectively as possible.
