§ Mr. Speirasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what contributions have been made by the Development Commission, set up by the Development and Road Improvement Funds Acts of 1909 and 1910, to assist the provision of adequate public transport facilities in the rural areas of Great Britain.
§ Mr. BarberThe Ministry of Transport Act, 1919, removed the power to make advances from the Development Fund for the improvement of rural transport facilities; but in 1958, on the recommendation of the Development Commissioners, a special grant of £373 was made to the Northumberland Rural Community Council in aid of expenditure directly incurred by the Council on a factual inquiry undertaken during 1957, with the agreement of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, into rural transport problems in mid-Northumberland.
