Mr. Masonasked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the growing unemployment in South Yorkshire; if he is satisfied that the facilities of his Department are as available here as in other areas of higher unemployment elsewhere; what reply he has sent to such parts of the resolution, a copy of which has been sent to him, which come within his responsibility, from the Sheffield Branch of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HareUnemployment in South Yorkshire has risen over the past year. The facilities of my Department are available here as in other areas and my local officers will continue to do all they can to find alternative employment for those who are registered for work.
I am replying today to the hon. Member about the resolution from the Sheffield Branch of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions which he sent to me on 9th February.
