56. Mr. Millan

asked the Minister of Labour how many building trade workers are now unemployed in Scotland; and what were the figures in May, 1962, and September, 1962.

Mr. Hare

On 14th January, 1963, 29,900 persons whose last employment was in the construction industry were registered as unemployed including those temporarily stopped in Scotland, compared with 11,317 on 14th May, 1962, 11,734 on 10th September, 1962, and 16,175 on 10th December, 1962. The number of skilled workers wholly unemployed on those dates was respectively 4,466, 1,274, 1,263 and 2,468.
