§ 58. Mr. Biffen
asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations have been made to him by members of the general council of the National Economic Development Council suggesting that recent wage settlements in excess of 3½ per cent. are inconsistent with the policies for economic expansion hitherto 59W outlined in National Economic Development Council reports; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Boyd-Carpenter
The National Economic Development Council discussed at its meeting on 4th December the implications of recent pay settlements for the achievement of our growth target, and the general problem of bringing the rate of growth of incomes and of national productivity into line. The Council will resume its discussion early in January.
