HC Deb 04 December 1963 vol 685 cc199-200W
Wing Commander Bullus

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works whether he is aware of the poor condition of the trees in Trafalgar Square; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Sharples

A survey has shown that only four of the plane trees in the Square are in a sound condition. The others are either dead or dying, and there is a risk that they may shed branches and cause injury to passers-by. We are therefore arranging, after consultation with our Advisory Committee on Forestry, for the unhealthy trees to be removed. We are consulting the Committee about replanting.
