Mrs. Butlerasked the Secretary of State for War (1) what amounts were received from film companies by his Department for the loan or purchase of horses for film production in 1962;
(2) how many British Army horses were loaned or sold for use in the production of film in 1962; and how many of these horses were killed or injured as a consequence of filming.
§ Mr. GodberNo horses were sold by my Department for use in the production of films in 1962. The Kings 217W Troop RHA and the Household Cavalry Regiment each took part in the making of television films. No payment was requested because there was no interference with normal training. The Kings Troop RHA, however, were sent an ex gratia payment of £25 by the makers of the film. No horses were either killed or injured as a result of filming.
