§ LORD GLADWYN
asked Her Majesty's Government:
- (a) what will be the estimated savings resulting from the proposed suppression of the railway line from Westerfield to Yarmouth (South); and
- (b) what would be the amount of subsidy required if the line were retained as far as (1) Woodbridge, (2) Saxmundham and (3) Halesworth.
§ THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT (LORD CHESHAM)
When the Railways Board give notice of a passenger closure proposal under Section 56 of the Transport Act, 1962, and there are objections from users, the Board provide the Area Transport Users Consultative Committee with figures of the receipts and direct costs attributable to the service. The Committee make this information available to objectors. It would not be appropriate for the Government to give the sort of information requested in advance of the Committee's consideration of the case.
