HC Deb 25 October 1962 vol 664 c217W
Sir W. Teeling

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will make a further statement about the work of the French and British departmental committees which have the Channel Tunnel project under consideration; and what steps have now to be taken before permission can be given by the British and French Governments for constructional work.

Mr. Marples

The Anglo-French official study of the proposals for a Channel Tunnel and a Channel Bridge has been making good progress. Much useful work has been done in the past few months, and the most recent joint meetings took place in London last week. I cannot yet say, however, when officials will report to Governments or what further steps will be considered necessary before the British and French Governments are in a position to reach decisions.
