HC Deb 25 October 1962 vol 664 cc225-6W
Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will list the independent air line companies who are under contract to his Department for troop carrying between the United Kingdom and Germany; and what has been the average number of flights per company per month over the last twelve months.

Mr. H. Fraser

I have been asked to reply to this Question.

Since 1st October, 1961, the contract for normal trooping movement between the United Kingdom and Germany has been held by British United Airways. Over the last twelve months they have made an average of 314 flights per month to or from Germany under the terms of the contract.

During the same period it was necessary to let some ad hoc charters for joint. Service trooping to or from Germany to other air line operators. The companies engaged under these arrangements and the number of flights they made over the period 1st October, 1961, to 30th September, 1962, were as follows:

Danair 63
Silver City 4
Derby Aviation 22
Cunard Eagle 5
Skyways 15
Lloyd International 9
Tradair 7
BUA 34
Total 159
