§ Mr. Matthewsasked the Minister of Education what is the basic salary for teachers when first qualifying, after three years' experience, and after five years, respectively.
§ Sir E. BoyleOn the lowest scale, which applies to two-year trained non-graduate teachers, the figures are £570, £660 and £750 respectively. These figures 13W are increased by £30 or £60 for each year of education or training beyond two, by £100 for the possession of a degree and by a further £100, if the degree is of Good Honours standard. Thus the corresponding figures for Good Honours Graduate with four years of study or training are £830, £950 and £1,040 respectively. For further details of the scales, I would refer the hon. Member to Section B of the 1961 Report of the Burnham Committee on Scales of Salaries for Teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools.
