HC Deb 26 November 1962 vol 668 cc10-1W
Mr. Watkins

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many employees of the Forestry Commission in Wales are to be declared redundant; in what units they are now employed; whether employment in other units is being offered; and why they are considered redundant.

Mr. Scott-Hopkins

Seventeen employees of the Forestry Commission in Wales were warned on 13th November, 1962, that their jobs would become redundant early in 1963. Twelve of these men are employed at Radnor Forest and five at Bechan Forest. The Commission hopes to reduce the number involved at Radnor to eight; employment at other forests in Wales is being offered to all the men concerned. The redundancy is caused mainly by the need to reduce planting programmes owing to the shortage of plantable land in these two areas.
