asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science if he will now give the date when Manchester University will be given permission to commence building a low-power nuclear reactor.

asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science whether he will now make a statement about the deferred grant for a nuclear reactor for the use of the universities of Manchester and Liverpool.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has today offered a grant of £350,000 for the construction and installation of a low-power nuclear reactor for Manchester and Liverpool Universities. Further grants will be offered later towards equipment and the running costs of the reactor centre until 31st July, 1967.
