HC Deb 13 November 1962 vol 667 cc29-30W
Mr. P. Williams

asked the President of the Board of Trade what progress has been made in encouraging new industry to come to Durham and Northumberland during 1962.

Mr. D. Price

During the period from 1st January to 30th September, 1962, we have approved 58 schemes for new industrial building in Northumberland and Durham, for a total area of 1,726,000 sq. ft., to provide about 4,750 jobs, according to the estimates of the firms concerned. As my right hon. Friend announced on the 8th November, the Government has decided to build five further advance factories in the North East, and we are continuing to do all we can to encourage further industrial development.
