HC Deb 12 November 1962 vol 667 c3W
42. Mr. C. Royle

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance if he will consider the issue of a supplementary pension book of the nominal value of 1s. per week, so as to allow pensioners in need of permanent medical attention to obtain medical supplies free, so obviating delay in reimbursement.

Mr. N. Macpherson

No. Pensioners who have a weekly assistance supplement—and therefore a supplementary order-book—can already obtain reimbursement at the post office. For those who are not eligible for a regular weekly supplement but who are known to need frequent help with prescription charges the National Assistance Board already has arrangements for speedy reimbursement.
