§ 70. Mr. Draysonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what sum he expects to save in the cost of agricultural support, consequent upon his raising the general standard at which cattle are accepted for guarantee, and by reducing the maximum weights on which the guarantee is paid.
Mr. VaneAs my right hon. Friend indicated in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Cirencester and Tewkesbury (Mr. Ridley) on 2nd May, it is not possible at this stage to give an estimate of the saving since the final figure will depend not only on the number of animals found ineligible but also on the market prices on which the deficiency payment is based.
