HC Deb 02 May 1962 vol 658 c148W
Mr. W. Hamilton

asked the Minister of Labour what was the total number wholly unemployed in Scotland in March, 1961, and March, 1962; the number of vacancies in each of those months; and the number of jobs lost through industrial closures in the period between those months.

Mr. Hare

68,462 were registered as wholly unemployed in March, 1961 and 75,186 in March 1962. Unfilled vacancies were 15,769 and 11,154 respectively. It is estimated that during this period about 4,200 workers were discharged as redundant through industrial closures.
