HC Deb 29 March 1962 vol 656 c130W
32. Mr. Fitch

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many detention centres for girls he is planning to build; and what will be the maximum time any girl can be detained there.

Mr. Fletcher-Cooke

The Answer to the first part of the Question is one.

The maximum sentence of detention is six months; but when Section 7 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1961, is implemented it will be possible for a girl who is subject to more than one sentence to be detained for a maximum period of nine months.
