HC Deb 21 March 1962 vol 656 c41W
43. Sir C. Osborne

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware of the danger of smoking causing lung cancer, of which recent evidence is contained in the Report of the Royal College of Physicians, a copy of which has been sent to him; if he will give a general direction to the British Transport Commission to provide more non-smoking compartments on all trains; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Marples

The scale on which nonsmoking compartments are provided is a matter of management for the British Transport Commission to decide. I understand that they keep the matter constantly under review and that they will have full regard to the Report to which my hon. Friend refers.
