57. Mr. Idwal Jonesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that there is no remand home within reasonable distance of the six north Wales counties; if such a remand home will be available in the near future; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerRemand accommodation for girls is available in a voluntary home at Wrexham, but for boys from North Wales the general practice has been to use the Monmouthshire remand home. The numbers in a separate boys' remand home for North Wales would probably be so small that it would be uneconomical to use. I will, however, bear in mind the requirements of North Wales in the consultations I am having with various local authorities about the provision of extra remand home accommodation.
