§ Sir D. EcclesA Committee of the Secondary School Examinations Council is considering whether oral tests should form part of the General Certificate of Education examinations in English. One examining body already conducts a test of spoken English as part of one of its Advanced level examinations and the Council has approved a proposal from another to introduce a similar test into its Ordinary level English Language examination.
