75. Mr. Smithers

asked the Minister of Power on what date a Report entitled, The Chilcomb Underground Gas Storage Project, dated October, 1961, was submitted to him; and whether it was accompanied by the covering letter of the consultants, Ball Associates, under cover of which it was transmitted by them to the Gas Council.

Mr. Wood

Copies were sent to my Department on 23rd October, 1961. They were not accompanied by the letter referred to.

Mr. Smithers

asked the Minister of Power whether he will agree to make an examination of the general issues involved in the underground storage of gas.

Mr. Wood

In view of the complexity and importance of the issues involved in the storage of gas underground, and the potential economic benefits to be gained, I have decided to initiate at once a full examination of the general problem and of the procedures which should be followed.

Meanwhile the Gas Council has decided to withdraw the present Bill.
