HC Deb 25 July 1962 vol 663 c147W
51. Mr. W. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will estimate the aggregate loss of rates for Scottish local authorities as a result of his decision to postpone for four years the full re-rating of industry; and what steps he proposes to take to recoup local authorities for this loss.

Mr. Noble

Re-rating of industry would not increase the rate incomes of local authorities, but would enable them to reduce rate poundages. If full re-rating had been in operation in 1961–62, Scottish industry's rate burden would have been increased by something approaching £10 million.
