§ 52. Mrs. Braddockasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what steps he intends to recommend the Liverpool Corporation to take, in furtherance of his current discussions with them, to speed up the clearance of the worst slums which he inspected during his visit to Liverpool on Friday, 15th June.
Dr. HillI made a number of suggestions when I met representatives of the council during my visit. These included concentration on bigger clearance areas so as to get more rebuilding done on slum sites; greater efforts to agree additional town development schemes with receiving authorities; and the co-ordination of plans and programmes with other authorities so as to 159W attract outside firms with the prospect of large scale contracts over a period of years. I shall give the council all the help I can in giving effect to these suggestions.
