§ 15. Mr. Dempseyasked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the practice of certain employers of withholding wages due to workers as lie time, thus 124W compelling them to take legal action in order to recover their legitimate entitlement; and if he will take steps to stop this practice.
§ Mr. HareI know that this is the practice of some employers, but my own view is that employers should make reasonable advances to workers in cases of need. It is a practice which, in co-operation with the British Employers' Confederation, we seek to minimise. I certainly have not information that workers are compelled to take legal action to recover wages due to them. If the hon. Member will write to me about any such cases I shall be glad to look into them.
