HC Deb 10 July 1962 vol 662 c115W
34. Mr. Kelley

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state, from information available to him in the compilation of his statistical digest, the average price of coal, per ton, exported from the United Kingdom to Western German, France, Holland, Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Canada and other Commonwealth countries, respectively, during the month of May, 1962.

Sir K. Joseph

The following is the information:

United Kingdom Exports of Coal—May, 1962
Average f.o.b price per ton
£
To Western Germany 2.9
To France 5.0
To Holland 4.4
To Belgium 5.7
To Finland 5.2
To Sweden 4.3
To Canada 6.4
To Other Commonwealth Countries 3.8

The figures quoted in the answer are average f.o.b. prices derived from the Trade and Navigation Accounts for exports recorded during the month of May. They do not include bunkers. As they are average prices they do not show the proportions of various grades of coal included in the sales to each country, and no conclusions can be drawn from them as to the actual prices obtained in the various countries for comparable qualities of coal. For the same reasons the figures cannot usefully be compared with those for previous periods.
