§ 44. Sir W. Teelingasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how far the promise of Her Majesty's Government on 25th March, 1958, to give a grant of £25 million to Malta in five years has been implemented; and what is today the position concerning this grant
§ Mr. MaudlingThis offer to which my hon. Friend refers was part of a proposed settlement which the Maltese Government at the time did not see fit to accept. Nevertheless, the British Government did subsequently undertake to provide £29¼ million in capital assistance over the period 1959 to 1964. It is estimated that at 31st March this year about £16¾ million of the total allocation remained available for expenditure in the remaining two years of the current development period.
