HC Deb 28 February 1962 vol 654 c154W
70. Mr. Watkins

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will give a general direction to the British Transport Commission not to issue proposals for rail closures, and to the Transport Users' Consultative Committees to postpone hearings in connection with pending proposals for closures, until the Transport Bill becomes law.

Mr. Marples

No. In the present financial state of the railways the Commission must continue to propose the withdrawal of uneconomic services and thereby lighten the burden on the taxpayer.
