HC Deb 27 February 1962 vol 654 cc128-9W
91. Mr. Oram

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what conclusions he has now reached about the appointment to the National Economic Development Council of people representative of consumer interests; and if he will make a statement.

92. Dame Irene Ward

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will broaden the basis of the National Economic Development Council to include the salaried community and the housewives.

Sir E. Boyle

To be effective the size of the National Economic Development Council must be kept reasonably small and cannot provide for sectional representation. The membership of twenty which my right hon. Friend has already indicated will constitute in his judgment the best means of achieving what the Government hope of this Council.
