§ 57 Mr. Snowasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he is satisfied that the fullest inquiries have been made into the possibilities of securing additional water supplies for 115W Manchester other than from Lake Ullswater; and what consultations he has had with Manchester Corporation about preserving the natural beauties of that lake and the additional capital required to implement alternative schemes.
§ Mr. RipponManchester's proposals have raised a number of disputed points, including that of alternative sources, which my right hon. Friend would like to see further investigated. He has therefore accepted a suggestion by the Corporation that further consultations between them and the bodies concerned with their proposals should take place under his aegis, and he has asked my noble Friend, the Joint Parliamentary Secretary, to preside. As a first step, my right hon. Friend has invited the Corporation, the National Parks Commission, and certain of the local authorities principally concerned to an early meeting with the noble Lord in order to agree upon the points needing further examination and to arrange for them to be examined.
