§ Mr. C. Ian Orr-EwingIn the last seven years, work on three ships which had been taken in hand for extended refits was subsequently abandoned following changes in defence policy. The ships were:

- H.M.S. Swiftsure—cost£1,830,000.
- H.M.S. Gravelines—cost£220,000.
- H.M.S. St. James—cost£210,000.
